Mid-Missouri teen dies Sunday morning

An 18-year-old Fulton High School senior died after he was found unresponsive Sunday morning.

The Callaway County Ambulance District and Central Callaway Fire Protection District responded at around 1:30 a.m. to a call of an 18-year-old man, identified as Teyjaun Galbreath, not breathing in a home on Timber Lane off State Road KK between Fulton and Millersburg. Due to the nature of the call, Callaway County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded.

"An 18-year-old not breathing is certainly not common," said Lt. Clay Chism. "Emergency services made several resuscitation attempts, however shortly after 2 a.m., Galbreath was declared dead."

An autopsy is scheduled for 9 a.m. today. Chism did not give a presumed cause of death, but said that a toxicology report may be needed to make that determination and could take four to six weeks to be completed.

Chism said the sheriff's office did not suspect foul play.

"An investigation is ongoing," he said. "It will be thorough, and we will work with the medical examiner's office to establish a cause of death and the events leading up to that cause."

Chism said Galbreath's next of kin and Fulton High School Principal Jason Whitt were contacted early Sunday morning.

Fulton Public Schools officials confirmed with the Fulton Sun that Galbreath had been a senior at the high school but declined to comment further Monday afternoon.
