Work at U.S. 54 and Madison Street to continue today

Application of a pavement treatment designed to help keep motorists safer on U.S. 54 at Madison Street in Jefferson City will continue through the day today and run through tonight to take advantage of the dry weather.

All of the work was originally scheduled to take place at night. Any work not completed today will be completed sometime during the remainder of the week, day or night, weather permitting.

The pavement treatment called High Friction Surface Treatment, is being applied to both eastbound and westbound lanes of 54 at Madison Street. Until 3 p.m. today crews will close the eastbound driving lane to work on the eastbound passing lane. They will return at 6 p.m. to work on the westbound passing lane, which will require the westbound driving lane to be closed.

The timeline for the lane closures and the amount of work completed is heavily dependent on the weather, as rain will postpone the application and colder temperatures will lengthen the treatment's curing process. Work may progress faster than scheduled or could be delayed, depending upon the weather experienced during roadwork.
