Jefferson City native Rebecca Neuenswander Welsh and the HALO Foundation are featured in a People Magazine story published today on the magazine's website, www.people.com.

"It's a story of my background and the history of HALO, and the different things we're doing and the number of kids we reach," Welsh said.

The HALO Foundation is a nonprofit that "empowers youth in the greatest need to become contributing members of their communities." The foundation supports 11 orphanages and programs in Uganda, Kenya, Mexico, India and Nicaragua. Domestically, it supports programming and art therapy for at-risk youth.

Welsh, founder and president of the HALO Foundation, splits her time between the agency's Kansas City and Jefferson City offices.

"This is huge for us," Welsh said of the People article. "So many more people will be aware of what HALO does."

She said some of the kids the foundation serves were also interviewed for the article.

"We're just excited," Welsh said. "We're thrilled. It's just a great way to get the word out."
