Man arrested after taking child April 19, 2014

Shooting, stabbing reported early Sunday

The Jefferson City Police Department is investigating a shooting and stabbing that occurred over the weekend.

Both nonfatal incidents happened early Sunday morning at different times. Police have not suggested the two are related.

The first incident happened when 911 received a call at 1:56 a.m. to respond to a shooting victim at McDonald’s, 1425 Missouri Blvd.

They found a 19-year-old Columbia resident who had been shot once in the back. The shooting took place in the 1500 block of Edmonds Street, but the victim was unfamiliar with the city and went to the McDonald’s to seek help, police said.

In the 1500 block of Edmonds Street, officers found evidence consistent with the victim’s story. They determined that several shots were fired in the area, but could not find other victims.

The victim was taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia. He is

cooperating with police, and provided information about a suspect vehicle.

At 4:30 a.m., about 21⁄2 hours after the shooting incident, police responded to Capital Region Medical Center, where a stabbing victim had just arrived in the emergency room.

The 20-year-old victim refused to give police any information about the incident. During a brief interview, officers determined the stabbing happened in the area of East McCarty and Chestnut streets. Police canvassed the area, but did not find further information or victims.

“Numerous subjects at the hospital refused to identify themselves as witnesses to the stabbling and were moved on from the hospital at the request of staff,” police Lt. David Williams said in a media release.
