Several runners, joggers and walkers took part in the first Missouri State Employees 5K race in Jefferson City on Saturday despite a downpour of rain.
State employees are participating in a 100 Missouri Miles Challenge, which encourages Missourians to complete 100 miles of outdoor physical activity by the end of the year.
Gov. Jay Nixon and his wife, first lady Georganne Nixon, joined other staff members to take part in Saturday's race. Before the event, the governor had logged 294 miles, and the first lady had logged 302 miles.
