Columbia trio sought on local theft charges

Three Columbia residents have been charged in connection with a series of thefts from motor vehicles that occurred in April on the eastern side of Jefferson City.

Susan Wengred, 17, Sheldon Grayson, 18, and Marland Lane, 22, are each charged with one count of felony stealing.

Police department probable cause statements show two individual fingerprints were found on a victim’s vehicle during the course of the investigation.

The fingerprints were analyzed by the Missouri Highway Patrol Crime Lab and came back with Lane and Grayson as suspects.

They were later seen in video surveillance at a local business, with Wengred fraudulently using a credit device stolen from one of their victims.

On April 30, Boone County sheriff’s deputies were involved in a pursuit with a vehicle after a report of shots fired.

The vehicle was the same used in the Jefferson City thefts and was owned by Wengred.

The vehicle crashed with Lane arrested at the scene and Grayson fleeing the area on foot.

A search of the vehicle resulted in numerous stolen items being recovered including a Missouri identification card for the owner of the vehicle in which the prints of Grayson and Lane were recovered. Stolen firearms and ammunition were also recovered.

As of Tuesday afternoon, all three were being sought by authorities.

Lane currently has an outstanding felony warrant for failure to appear for charges related to the pursuit.

Wengred has numerous charges in Boone and Cole counties.

Grayson was in possession of the stolen firearms and was a convicted felon at the time of the pursuit.
