Lincoln women win, men fall

ST. LOUIS - The Lincoln women's basketball team scored 21 points off 25 turnovers to claim a 70-49 victory against Missouri Baptist in the opening round of the Hilton Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Jennifer Rosado scored 15 points while Nesha Wright chipped in 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Blue Tigers. Lincoln owned a 24-point lead after the first half. Hunter Yoakum came off the bench to score 12 points and Angela Randall finished with six points in a reserve role for Lincoln (2-4).

Missouri Baptist (2-4) was just 12-of-53 (22 percent) from the field.

The Blue Tigers take on Harris-Stowe State at 1 p.m. today in St. Louis before hosting Northeastern State on Dec. 5.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Tougaloo men's basketball team overcame a slow first half to earn a 89-74 win against Lincoln in the opening round of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Classic on Friday evening.

The Blue Tigers (1-6) led by six at the half and went on a 15-2 run to take a 55-36 lead with 15:26 left to play. Tougaloo (1-7) responded with a 26-6 run to take a 62-61 lead with 9:01 remaining and the Bulldogs didn't look back from there.

Tougaloo was 10-of-26 (38 percent) from the field in the first half, but hit 18-of-34 (52 percent) of its shots in the second half and scored 37 points off 28 Lincoln turnovers.

After a first half in which Lincoln made 13-of-24 field-goal attempts, including 7-of-14 from the 3-point line, the Blue Tigers made just four treys in 10 attempts down the stretch. Lincoln still made half of its shots, going 13-of-26 (52 percent) from the field in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Bulldogs.

Jeremy Jackson and Clay Crouch both scored 12 points for Lincoln, while DeShon Williams and James Edmond each chipped in 10 to help lead the Blue Tigers, who face Talladega at 4 p.m. today.
