Substation failure causes city-wide outage in Fulton Tuesday
Power out for up to 1 hour before electricity rerouted

Equipment failure at a city of Fulton substation resulted in an outage for all city utility customers Tuesday evening.
A press release from the city states that customers lost electricity around 4:40 p.m., but “quick response by the Electric Department allowed power to be restored to all within 45 minutes to one hour.”
“Basically a piece of equipment caused a breaker to open and that in turn caused all the power to basically go out,” Public Information Officer Darin Wernig told the Fulton Sun. “We kind of narrowed it down to the area but we weren’t really able to diagnose the actual equipment that failed until this morning (Wednesday).”
Power has since been rerouted pending repairs to the substation.
Wernig said the city has no specific anticipated repair completion date or cost, but customers shouldn’t notice any differences in the meantime.
“The substation isn’t really vital in the winter months. It really comes into play in the summer months when there’s a lot more electric usage during that time,” he said.
“People shouldn’t be impacted because we’re not using that substation at the moment.”
