Jefferson City officials closing out 2013 budget

Jefferson City is nearly one month into the 2014 fiscal year, and finance officials are working on closing out accounts from the previous year, hoping to come as close to projections as possible.

At the Finance Committee meeting Tuesday, interim Finance Director Bill Betts said staff is closing out accounts and waiting on reimbursements and payments before the final numbers are in for the 2013 fiscal year, but he’s estimating the totals will be within one percent of projections.

The city projected revenues of $31.2 million for the 2013 fiscal year.

Betts said there are some areas that will fall short, such as revenues through cellphone audits, but other areas are coming in above projections.

“It’s going to be very close,” Betts said.

The city’s sales tax receipts also are improving, with one month of receipts left to be reported. If sales tax revenues do not miss projections next month, the city will exceed its projections of sales tax revenues.

“We’re in good shape there,” Betts said.
