Have you received your "Just Desserts" recently? If you haven't, here's your chance to rectify the situation.
On Tuesday, the Helias Catholic High School Music Boosters is hosting its "Just Desserts" fundraiser in support of the school's musical program. Specifically the event raises money for "Parallel Motion," Helias' show choir.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the high school's old gymnasium.
For $8, ticket purchasers not only pick from a selection of desserts, they also will see a sneak-peek of Parallel Motion's 2014 show based on characters from Charles M. Shulz's comic strip, "The Peanuts Gang."
Jana Fox, chorale director, said the show "focuses on Charlie Brown's attitude." No matter how the game looks or even if it seems his team has no chance of winning, Brown always has a positive attitude, she said.
"He's as good as everybody else," she said.
The show's songs include: "Are You Ready for Some Football?" by Hank Williams Jr.; "Baby Grand," by Billy Joel; "Popular" from the Broadway show Wicked; and "Loser Like Me" from the hit television series "Glee." Listeners who love the old standards will be delighted to hear "Come Fly With Me," a 1957 song written for Frank Sinatra.
This year Tammy Walker - a choreographer from Columbia - is teaching the Helias students their dance moves.
Helias' competition season starts in January. "It's our first performance," she said.
She noted listeners will also hear acts by other students - bands, soloists and pianists - as part of the evening's entertainment.
Fox said this is the six year for the fundraiser, which first started when the Parallel Motion was launched. The event also features a live auction of "exquisite desserts" and a silent auction for gift baskets, she said. Tickets may be purchased from a Helias music student or at the door for $8.
Fox hopes people will make time to attend. "This is an evening full of singing and dancing ... we hope to see you at this wonderful event," she said.
