Lady Falcons find things out

The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons know where they need to improve.

Blair Oaks dropped games to Jefferson City, Helias and Fatima in a basketball jamboree Friday night at Helias. The Lady Falcons played two six-minute quarters against each opponent.

“We have a lot of things to work on,” Blair Oaks head coach Leroy Bernskoetter said. “We just have so many new faces out there. It’s just going to be a learning experience.”

Blair Oaks certainly features an experienced trio of guards in Missouri State signee LeeAnn Polowy, Sara Jones and Lauren Viessman. It’s mostly a cast of varsity neophytes after that.

“It’s just hard tonight,” Bernskoetter said. “You rotate that many in and out. We had to take a look and see what some young ones are going to look like for the beginning of the season.”

Blair Oaks opened with Jefferson City. The Lady Falcons dropped a 16-14 decision on a pair of free throws with 1.5 seconds left in the contest.

Polowy led Blair Oaks with 10 points.

Next up was Helias. After Blair Oaks took a 6-5 lead after one quarter, Helias responded to grab a 14-7 victory. Polowy scored six of the Lady Falcons’ seven points.

Blair Oaks finished with Fatima. The Lady Falcons again let a halftime lead slip away. After taking a 12-10 edge after one quarter, Fatima responded with a 16-2 run to start the second period and pulled out a 30-17 victory.

Polowy finished with a team-high five points.

Blair Oaks opens the season Dec. 2 against Eugene in the Eugene Tournament.

“We played hard, we scrapped, we got a lot of bodies in there,” Bernskoetter said. “We have some mistakes we have to learn to correct.”
