JC teen charged with statutory rape

A Jefferson City teen has been charged with first-degree statutory rape for having sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 14.

As of Thursday afternoon, Samuel Marshall, 17, was being held on $25,000 bond in the Cole County Jail.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows authorities took Marshall in for an interview after the mother of another girl assaulted him after she found out he was with her daughter.

Investigators looked through Marshall's cellphone where they found text messages between him and the victim in this case. Many of the messages indicated the two had sex.

Marshall confirmed they had had sex, and during a forensic interview at an area advocacy center, the victim said she and Marshall had had sex and that Marshall knew she was underage.
