Nine members of the Lincoln University football team earned academic honors from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association on Thursday.
J.J. Johnson and Justin Campbell received MIAA Scholar-Athlete Awards for their success on the field and in the classroom. The honor is bestowed upon any athlete who has been named all-league and has posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Johnson, who carries a 3.61 GPA, and Campbell, who owns a GPA of 3.74, started all 11 games for Lincoln at center and right guard, respectively. Together, they helped produce one of the prolific offensive attacks in recent Blue Tiger history. The pair blocked for 4,917 yards of total offense, crushing the old single-season record of 3,734 yards, set in 2012. The duo also helped pave the way for 2,529 yards rushing, 2,388 passing yards and 42 offensive touchdowns.
Deon Brock, Garrett Carrillo, Daniel Mande, Rashyied Melvin, Markuice Savage, Brian Smith, and Brandon Tovar were named to the MIAA Honor Roll, which recognizes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
