The Missouri River Regional Library (MRRL) board approved a final Strategic Plan Outline on Tuesday that highlights the library’s three-year plan to improve patron experience.

The plan includes enhancing e-collections, strengthening the library’s virtual presence, and improving the patrons’ physical experience.

The outline includes a timeline depicting which library departments are responsible for various goals.

It also includes the library’s mission and vision statements adopted in January 2013.

The mission states: “The Mission of Missouri River Regional Library is to promote development of the community by providing access to a diverse selection of resources and programs to address the educational, professional and recreational needs of the residents of Cole and Osage Counties.”

The vision states: “Missouri River Regional Library will be a vibrant organization that attracts and stimulates a thriving community of life-long learners.”

The board was also told:

•The library’s park now closes at 9 p.m., which Director Helen Rigdon said hopefully will solve the problem of “unruly young people in the park and in front of the library.” The library is working closely with the Jefferson City Police Department regarding issues in the park.

•The first installment of $5,000 has been paid to Clark Enersen Partners, the firm conducting a study to map the structural needs of the library facility.

•The finance committee recommended the board approve starting with the 2013 audit that 20 percent of the change of net assets be restricted to the library’s capital improvement fund. The board approved the measure.

•The MRRL Foundation has scheduled two events so far for 2014—a mini-golf event on Feb. 22 and a Mayor’s Run for Reading on April 5.
