5 charged with bashing mailboxes

Five people were arrested after several reports of property destruction in Jefferson City.

According to police reports, on Sunday at 11:13 p.m., officers were called to the 200 block of Haaf Drive in reference to a property destruction complaint.

An area resident witnessed several subjects in a dark color, older model truck, damaging mailboxes by throwing filled water bottles at them.

With the description of the suspect's vehicle obtained from the witness, officers were able to locate and stop the suspect vehicle in the 200 block of Monroe Street.

The vehicle was occupied by four adult males and one adult female. The subjects admitted to damaging between five and 10 mailboxes.

As of Monday afternoon, on the eastside of Jefferson City, officers located 15 damaged mailboxes, but they believe there could be more victims. Other victims are asked to contact the Jefferson City Police Department at 634-6400.
