Your Opinion: Endorsement for Capital Mall location

Dear Editor:

The City Council will soon be selecting a convention center proposal and it is my hope that the council will seriously consider Jefferson City's Capital Mall as the site.

Although there have been suggestions that the convention center must be downtown to be close to state government, the proximity of the center to the Truman Building, Jefferson Building and other state offices should not be a consideration.

Generally any convention meetings will be at the convention center site and I assume that the attendees will not be required to shuttle between the center and their offices. If there is a desire for off-site transportation, I understand that the mall developer proposes a shuttle service not only to downtown but to other points of interest in the city.

The Capital Mall site is convenient, has readily accessible parking and is close to shopping and restaurants. If we are finally to move forward with a convention center, the convention center proposal must make economic sense and the mall site proposal does so.
