Lincoln women fall to Truman State

MARYVILLE - It wasn't the best weekend for the Lincoln women's basketball team.

Lincoln dropped an 83-60 decision to Truman State on Sunday to conclude a winless pair of games in the Winstead-Reeves Classic.

Hunter Yoakum led three Blue Tigers in double figures with 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Kieanna Wharton added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting while Angela Randall had 10 points as Lincoln hit just 24-of-64 shots (37.5 percent).

Amy Briggs and Kasey Gassensmith both tallied 12 points for Truman State, while Allison Wiese, Megan Walsh and Courtney Straight all chipped in with 11 points apiece.

Lincoln took an early 4-0 lead on baskets from Wharton and Randall before Truman State tied the game at 6. The Bulldogs slowly pulled away after that.

Holding a 29-23 edge, Truman State closed the opening half on a 17-4 run to take a commanding 48-27 advantage into the break.

Truman State led by as many as 34 points in the second half, coming on a jumper from Britney Boland that made it 76-42 with 8:01 remaining in the contest.

Lincoln (1-3) hosts Maryville at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
