Grand jury indicts two on stealing charges

The Cole County grand jury handed down indictments this week after finding there was enough evidence to send the cases onto the circuit courts for possible trial.

Among those indicted were:

• A Jefferson City man charged with felony stealing in an attempt to fraudulently collect lottery winnings. Court documents show Nathan Bracy, 30, of 3939 Dewberry Drive, committed the crime in June.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows two employees of the Missouri Lottery entered Citgo, 105 W. Dunklin St., to do a compliance game investigation.

Bracy was working at the store when the lottery employees presented two tickets, posing as customers. One ticket was a losing ticket, the other was a winner.

Store equipment notified Bracy that one of the tickets was a winner and to let the customer know so they could collect their winnings. Instead, Bracy told the customer the ticket was not a winner and threw the ticket in the trash.

• A Jefferson City man who was taken into custody in October after the owner of the items he stole used a tracking device on her phone to help police catch him.

Michael Scaife, 56, was charged with felony theft, stealing a firearm and stealing a credit device.

According to police, Scaife stole credit devices, a firearm, cash and an iPhone from a vehicle in the 600 block of Monroe Street. The iPhone was equipped with a tracking device, and the owner signed into her account and found the phone was moving.
