Helias beats Rolla for district title

BOLIVAR - With the game scoreless at intermission, the Helias Crusaders could feel the momentum shift to their side.

And shift it did. Braden Remmert's unassisted goal with 11 minutes remaining Friday night lifted second-seeded Helias to a 1-0 victory in the Class 2 District 10 title game against the top-seeded Rolla Bulldogs.

"At the half, I thought we had a good chance to win it," Helias coach Chuck Register said. "I am thrilled to death for the boys, they played their hearts out.

"It was a great team effort and one of the best games I've ever seen."

With the win, Helias (18-5, ranked No. 10 in Class 2) advances to Tuesday night's sectional game at District 9 champion Union (16-10). Game time is 6 p.m.

Remmert's goal came on a strong individual effort from about 25 yards out.

"He got the ball, dribbled down the left side and when no one came out to guard him, he shot and made it," Register said.

Kyle Daledovich got his 12th shutout of the season for the Crusaders.

"Kyle made some very good saves and we had a strong defensive effort in front of him," Register said.

Rolla, ranked No. 2 in the Class 2 state poll, ends at 24-3.
