Columbia to continue fluoridation of water supply

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - The Columbia City Council says the city's water supply will continue to contain fluoride.

The council voted Monday night to continue the fluoridation, after some residents had criticized the practice. Opponents contend fluoride poses health threats to children. Supporters say the benefits of fluoridation outweigh any potential concerns or risks.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports Fifth Ward Councilwoman Laura Nauser, who previously was opposed to fluoridation, said most of her constituents wanted fluoridation to continue.
