Comets, Lady Comets continue to dominate cross country

Fatima bound for State

WESTPHALIA, Mo. - The Class 2 District 4 Cross Country Championships turned into the Fatima Invitational.

The host Comets made it 11-for-11 in meets this season, dominating the competition to finish with 23 points and team honors.

The Comets had the top three individuals - Ross Schanzmeyer, Hunter Hennier and Tom Zeilman.

Southern Boone claimed the other boys spot at the state championships, winning a tiebreaker against Blair Oaks after both finished with 75 team points

Blair Oaks will have three runners at the state championships - Nick Yaeger (eighth in districts), Jason Otto (ninth) and Brad Thomas (14th).

Other area individual qualifiers include Maguire Scheer and Sam Bowles of Southern Boone, and California teammates Adam Burkett and Zach Merrill.

The Class 2 boys race is the first of the day, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

On the girls side, the Fatima Lady Comets picked up their 10th team win of the season at the district championships.

Fatima, which placed its seven individuals in spots 2-8, finished with 20 team points. Anna Massman led the Lady Comets with her runner-up finish.

Blair Oaks, paced by Megan Graessle's 10th-place finish, was second with 76 team points.

The Lady Comets and Lady Falcons qualified for the girls state meet, to be run at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

Other area individual qualifiers include California teammates Katie Imhoff and Leah Korenburg, along with Taylor Howard and Andrea Rodriguez of South Callaway.
