Callaway deputies arrest fugitive

A Texas man wanted on felony forgery charges is in Callaway County Jail after he was arrested by local sheriff’s deputies in a joint effort with Holts Summit Police.

Sgt. Clay Chism of the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department reported Justin A. Bruce, 32, of the state of Texas, was arrested Thursday in Holts Summit.

Chism said deputies earlier had received information that Bruce might be in the Holts Summit area. They also investigated a report Bruce participated in a May 21 disturbance involving a weapon on County Road 4006.

Deputies attempted to locate Bruce but were unsuccessful.

But on Thursday, a deputy spotted Bruce driving a vehicle southbound on U.S. Highway 54. The deputy followed the vehicle until it reached Holts Summit and exited on State Road OO.

At that point, several Holts Summit Police officers assisted the deputy in stopping Bruce’s vehicle.

Chism reported Bruce was arrested without incident. He has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon relating to a May 21 incident in Callaway County.

He also is being held without bond on the Texas felony forgery warrant for his arrest. Extradition proceedings to send Bruce to Texas will occur when appropriate, Chism said.
