Your Opinion: Job creation opportunity lost

Dear Editor:

Despite the fact that jobs are the main point of conversation these days, our General Assembly finished up its session without passing a vital jobs bill, Infrastructure Strengthening and Regulatory Streamlining (ISRS). My senator, Mike Kehoe championed ISRS, and I hope that next year, he can encourage his colleagues to make jobs a priority.

We need to make sure that we don't send job opportunities to states next door. We need smart energy solutions to help get more jobs here in Missouri.

There's no doubt that our electric infrastructure is aging, and it's an issue we are going to have to address in the future, ISRS or no ISRS. Our businesses and consumers need reliable energy, and good paying jobs. In the long term, we'll be better positioned to attract more companies to Missouri. Reliable power certainly makes us more appealing for industry development.

To me, protecting our vital infrastructure just makes sense. Let's hope that in 2014, other legislators can join Sen. Kehoe in supporting infrastructure legislation that creates jobs.
