Youth hurt in car-bike collision

An 11-year-old Jefferson City boy was transferred to Children's Hospital in St. Louis on Friday afternoon, following some treatment at Capital Region Medical Center for head injuries suffered when he rode his bicycle across Route C, into the path of a car.

Because the boy wasn't identified, no condition report was available.

Police said their investigation "determined that the bicycle failed to yield to the car."

In the collision, police said, the boy "was thrown onto the hood and struck the windshield of the car with his head."

Police did not report whether the boy was wearing a helmet.

The car was driven by Austin Kutscher, 22, Jefferson City, who was using a seat belt.

The accident happened at 2:37 p.m. near the Route C intersection with Southridge Drive.
