Attorney General Chris Koster announced Thursday the state reached a settlement with Skin Rx LLC and its owner, Laura Rackers, over accusations the company took money for services it didn’t perform.
Skin Rx MedSpa & Laser Center had operations in Jefferson City and Columbia.
Koster said the company accepted payment from consumers for cosmetic procedures, including laser hair removal, but closed the business before the services were provided or completed.
Six consumers who had pre-paid for services from Skin Rx complained to the attorney general’s office, which then pursued legal action on their behalf.
Under the settlement terms, Skin Rx and Rackers agreed to pay restitution totaling $5,445 to the six Missouri consumers.
Rackers and the company also agreed to refrain from claiming, demanding, charging, collecting or receiving any compensation or payment for services until those services have been performed fully.
“Consumers have recourse available when purchased services aren’t delivered,” Koster said in a news release. “My office will hold Missouri businesses accountable when they don’t follow through as promised.”
Missourians can file complaints with the attorney general’s Consumer Protection Division, by calling the toll-free hotline at 1-800-392-8222, or online at ago.mo.gov.
Koster also recommends that consumers considering pre-purchasing health spa services check first with their local Better Business Bureau, and the attorney general’s office, to see if any complaints have been filed against a specific business.
