Barrett charged with burglary

A Jefferson City man has been charged with breaking into a storage facility earlier this month.

Brian Barrett, 41, of 5409 W. Business 50, is charged with second-degree burglary.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows a suspicious vehicle was found May 1 parked at M&K Storage on Scruggs Station Road.

A deputy entered the storage facility lot and saw Barrett in front of one of the units and the doors of several units wide open.

Several wood desks and benches were sitting around Barrett's vehicle and matched pieces of desks in the trunk of Barrett's car.

Barrett told the deputy he had planned to take items from several storage units.

A bag found in Barrett's car contained a drill, rope and screw drivers.
