Four Jefferson City Public Schools Reading Recovery teachers were recognized for completing their year-long training.
Teachers Carrie Martin, East Elementary; Cheryl Curtner, Thorpe Gordon Elementary; Kelly Moeller, East Elementary; and Lesha Neidert, Callaway Hills Elementary, took three graduate courses from Southeast Missouri State University.
The classes focused on training the teachers to implement Reading Recovery, which is a first-grade early intervention designed to prevent reading failure.
These teachers provide individual 30-minute lessons each school day for 12-20 weeks. When students meet grade-level expectations and demonstrate they are able to work independently in the classroom their lessons are discontinued.
