BizBeat: Chez Monet gears up for new chapter

Joan Fairfax, owner of High Street’s Chez Monet, is excited to begin a new chapter of business. The Jefferson City storefront will continue serving lunch through this week, with specials each day as it closes out that portion of its offerings.
Through May, customers will still be able to get their coffee and bakery items at the High Street location. Fairfax, however, is transitioning into offering her bakery items from home. With a home occupancy permit, Fairfax will not have customers come to her house, but will instead deliver her bakery items.
“Yo-Yums will also have some of our cookies and cupcakes and such,” she explained.
Fairfax said she has planned the transition for years, and is finally ready to take the plunge. By closing the storefront, the business owner will be able to focus more on her cake decorating and bakery catering than on the day-to-day transactions.
“Why not just do what I love to do? I am really excited about it,” she said.
Fairfax reassured that customers can still get all their bakery items by ordering, as well as those special strawberries for Valentine’s Day.
“The only thing I’m really cutting out is the every morning stop-ins,” as well as lunch service, she noted. “I can fill all their orders just like I always have.”
As Fairfax starts this new chapter, she reminded, “I’m not going anywhere. This is the same company, with the same phone number ... call for anything.” Chez Monet will also be setting up a new website in the coming weeks.
