The Cole County grand jury recently indicted two Jefferson City men on charges related to sexual assault cases.
• The grand jury indicted a Jefferson City man on charges of first-degree burglary for an incident in April. Court documents show Antwain Stewart, 36, of 206 N. Ventura Ave., entered a residence in the 100 block of Ventura Avenue for the purpose of committing sexual misconduct and assault.
A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows a female victim said she was sleeping in her bedroom when Stewart came in and started to take off his clothes.
She grabbed a kitchen knife from under her mattress. Stewart began to gather his clothes, and she chased him out of the residence. The victim gave a description of Stewart to police, and he was picked up two blocks away from the victim’s residence.
The victim identified Stewart as the man who entered her bedroom.
Authorities said Stewart has multiple incidents in the Ventura area, including domestic assault and suspicious activity in the past month. He also has several violent convictions in his past, including second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
• The grand jury indicted a Jefferson City man who was charged with three counts of first-degree sodomy and one count of incest in connection with a sexual assault case from March.
Alex Turpin, 25, told investigators he had molested a relative for the past two years.
Turpin was taken into custody after the child described how Turpin had sex with her on multiple occasions.
By handing down these indictments, the grand jury found there was enough evidence to send the cases on to the circuit court level where they could go to trial.
