Jays, Lady Jays dominate sectional relays

OZARK, Mo. — Relays were a standout Saturday for the Jefferson City Jays and Lady Jays in Class 4 Sectional 3 track and field meet.

The Jays and Lady Jays will take a combined eight relay teams to this week’s Class 4 championships after the foursomes all finished in the top four in their events.

On the boys side, the 4x100- and 4x200-meter squads claimed sectional championships. The top finisher for the girls was a second-place finish in the 4x200.

The Jays, who finished with 97 points to top the 23-team field, will participate in 11 events at state. Mervyn John will be in two individual events — the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

The Lady Jays, who finished second in the team standings with 96 points, will have participants in 10 events at state. Kezia Martin will be in three individual events after taking first in the long and triple jump and third in the 100-meter hurdles.

Louisa Nylander led a 1-2 finish for the Lady Jays in the 300-hurdles, one spot ahead of Haley Watson.

The top four finishers in each event advance to the state meet, which starts Friday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
