Some people would be happy setting one record at the state track meet. Not Aiesha Irvin-Muhammad.
Competing in the Class 2 girls portion of the Missouri State High School Activities Association Track and Field Championships, the senior from St. Elizabeth Academy racked up two sprint records at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
It started in the 100-meter dash prelims, where Irvin-Muhammad's time of 12.11 seconds beat the Class 2 record of 12.13 set by Crystal City's Precious Selmon in 2008.
But she was just warming up, as she broke an even more notable mark later in the day.
Irvin-Muhammad blazed her way to a time of 24.34 in the 200-meter dash, breaking the existing mark of 25.05 set by another Crystal City runner, Angie Lalumondier. But the most notable thing? The mark stood for a quarter-century - Lalumondier's Class 2 mark was set way back in 1988.
Those were two of several notable performances recorded Friday.
Also in the Class 2 girls portion of the meet, Herculaneum's Kaitlyn Fischer pulled off a three-peat, as she won the 3,200-meter run in 11:03.04 for her third straight title in the event.
Fischer's effort helped Herculaneum capture the first-day team lead with 27 points. Lutheran: St. Peters was next with 18, while Monroe City was in third with 13.5.
Another state mark fell Friday, as Stewartsville's Dominick Fleeks set the Class 1 boys record in the 400-meter dash, putting up a time of 49.63. That broke the record of 49.66 set by Saxony Lutheran's Brandon Etzold in 2007.
Rock Port's Eric Duncan was a double winner in Class 1, as he took the long jump and high jump titles. That helped Rock Port take the team led with 23 points, although Jasper and Worth County were close behind, with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Among the Class 1 girls, King City's Amber Sleeth was a repeat winner, as she defended her title in the shot put with a heave of 37-6.
Salisbury led that part of the event with 33 points, while Mound City had 18 and Chamois was in third with 15 points.
In the Class 2 boys portion of the meet, Lamar racked up 34 points to open up a huge lead, as Malden, Monroe City, Principia and College Heights Christian were in a four-way tie for second with 10 points each.
The event resumes Saturday with field events starting at 11 a.m. and running events at noon.
