Your Opinion: Thoughts on imposing taxes on Internet sales
Monday, May 13, 2013
When I go to another state and buy a product, I pay the state and local sales taxes of that locality. Why should Internet sales be any different?
If I buy merchandise over the Internet from say, Overland Park, Kan., shouldn’t I pay state and local sales taxes applicable in Overland Park, Kan.?
If the government is so bent on taking more money from us, my proposal makes so much more sense.
But is marketplace fairness the real goal of taxing Internet sales?
Under my system, business would be booming in New Hampshire (no state sales taxes). But booming businesses, anywhere, are not what the government really wants.
