Missouri baseball falls at Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Missouri Tigers blew a two-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning and saw the Alabama Crimson Tide rally for a 7-6 win on Sunday.

After Alabama opened the scoring with one run in the first, Missouri tied it in the fourth.

A three-run fifth for the Crimson Tide was answered by a five-run top of the seventh for the Tigers.

But then came the ninth, where Missouri reliever Jake Walsh managed to get just one out.

Walsh (1-1) took the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with two strikeouts.

Rob Zastryzny got a no-decision for the Tigers, as he worked the first six innings and gave up four unearned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Dane Opel paced Missouri on offense with two hits, including a triple, and two RBI. Josh Lester and Scott Sommerfeld had two hits and one RBI each, while Dylan Kelly had one hit and two RBI. Dillon Everett chipped in with a pair of hits.

The Tigers dropped to 16-30 overall and 8-19 in the Southeastern Conference, while Alabama improved to 31-22 and 13-12.

Missouri returns home for its final regular-season series, as the Tigers will host Kentucky. The first contest in the three-game set is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.
