Frank Burkhead and his wife, Carol, own Burkhead and Associates LLC, a certified public accounting (CPA) firm on Capitol Avenue in Jefferson City.

What many don't know about Burkhead is that he also serves as a county appointee on the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) Redevelopment Commission. He's been on the commission for five years.

The commission, created by the Legislature in 2001, is in charge of overseeing the development, sale and lease of MSP. It includes 10 commissioners, six from Cole County and four from outstate, some appointed by Jefferson City's mayor and the governor.

"I like the ability to represent the county, all the people of the county in that site," Burkhead said. "The ability to be their representative and to try to keep the ball rolling forward with the development that's happening over there."

Burkhead is a Jefferson City native and spent two years at University of Missouri Columbia before finishing his degree in accounting at Lincoln University.

He and his wife have been married for 18 years and have two children.

Prior to taking over his father-in-law's business with his wife in 1999, Burkhead worked in different capacities for the Missouri Department of Revenue.

His role with his CPA firm is in wealth management within the community.

"Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, retirement planning, college planning. That kind of stuff," Burkhead said. "What I love about that role is the ability to sit down, meet new people, help clients with their planning towards whatever goal they have."

Burkhead and his wife also helped found the Velocity Track Club in Jefferson City. The club is a youth track club that works on getting kids to the Amateur Athletic Union and USA Track and Field Junior Olympics.

"It takes a lot of time, but is a lot of fun for us to do," Burkhead said.
