LU’s Shepherd, UCM’s Wilson receive mentions in baseball

KANSAS CITY — A tough season for the Lincoln baseball team couldn’t overshadow the effort of outfielder Colby Shepherd.

Shepherd was the lone Blue Tiger honored Thursday when the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association announced its all-conference baseball team.

Shepherd, who wrapped up his senior season, led the Blue Tigers in several offensive categories during Lincoln’s 7-33 campaign. He was tops on the squad in batting average (.376), hits (53) and RBI (29) and tied for the lead in runs (26), stolen bases (9) and triples (1). He was one shy of the team lead with three home runs.

Another honorable-mention selection was Central Missouri’s Brad Wilson. The Helias High School graduate hit .345 this season with 13 doubles, three home runs and 53 RBI. He had a team-best 15-game hitting streak earlier this season.
