Indictment accuses duo of thefts from Sam's Club

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Two northwest Missouri residents are facing federal indictment for allegedly stealing $100,000 worth of merchandise from Sam's Club locations in seven states and selling the goods on eBay.

The U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis on Thursday announced indictments of 41-year-old James Baggio and 39-year-old Mary Sue Scott, both of St. Joseph, Mo.

The indictment alleges that in 2011 and 2012 the duo visited several Sam's Club stores, typically selecting an expensive item packaged in a large box, then emptying the contents and puting more expensive items in the box. At checkout, the cashier scanned the box but was unaware of the stolen items inside.

The indictment sites thefts at St. Louis area stores but does not name other states where the thefts allegedly occurred.
