Cole County Courthouse clock ticking again

The clock in the tower at the Cole County Courthouse is running again after stopping once again earlier this week.

Cole County Eastern District Commissioner Jeff Hoelscher said he and volunteers unhooked the northeast face/hands of the clock on Wednesday. They're working to determine whether the latest problem was with one of the linkages to an individual face/hands of the clock.

"The good news is that it appears to definitely be something in the linkage," he said. "Basically we've been troubleshooting, eliminating things little by little."

Hoelscher also said they should have all the clock faces lit up after finding last week that only one face was lit.

In late April, volunteers got the clock working for the first time in four years after repairing the pendulum shaft.

The Seth Thomas clock was made in the 1920s.
