Apache Flats makeover in the works

Public meeting set on major upgrade to Business 50

The Cole County Public Works Department will hold a public meeting on May 14 to discuss the reconstruction of Business 50 West in Apache Flats.

The meeting will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Marine Corps League, 4925 Business 50 West.

The meeting will be an open house format and citizens can arrive any time.

Representatives from the county and the engineering consultant will be present to help citizens in reviewing the project plans, answer questions, and to receive any comments.

The project will start at the end of state maintenance west of the intersection of Business 50 and Country Club Drive and finish at the St. Martin's city limits, about 800 feet west of Wrens Parkway.

The work, which will encompass just more than two miles, will include a three-lane roadway with curb and gutter along with sidewalks adjacent to the roadway. Existing roadway ditches will be relocated or enclosed as needed to accommodate the roadway drainage.

This project will be much like the improvements that were done on East McCarty Street in Jefferson City.

The project will be funded through Cole County's half-cent sales tax, passed by voters in 2006 and 2011.

If you can't make it to the meeting, maps and other plan details are available for public inspection and copying at the Cole County Public Works office, 5055 Monticello Road, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
