Jays fall to Smith-Cotton

SEDALIA - With a busy week ahead, the Jefferson City Jays got off on the wrong foot.

The Jays dropped a 7-6 decision to district foe Smith-Cotton on Monday.

Steven Coots took the loss. Corey Beard and Gabe Marcantonio had two hits for the Jays (19-5) who are back in action Wednesday at Kirksville. Jefferson City then returns home Thursday to take on Wentzville-Holt before opening district play Saturday against Camdenton. The Jays are the No. 3 seed in the tournament while Smith Cotton is the No. 5 seed.

Jefferson City won Monday's JV game 10-5.

Jeremy Light was the winning pitcher. Jake Pridgin was 2-for-3 for Jefferson City (7-3)
