Miners take second

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Missouri S&T Miners captured second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships that wrapped up Saturday.

Indianapolis won the title with 165.5 points, while S&T was next in the 11-team field with 121.

Adriel Hawkins (Jefferson City High School) placed second in the 200-meter dash, even though he and Quinntyn Qualls of Indianapolis were credited with identical time of 21.539.

Hawkins was also third in the 100-meter dash (10.66) and fourth in the triple jump (14.21 meters).

Hawkins was also a member of the S&T 4x100-meter relay that finished fourth (42.18).

On the women's side, S&T finished fifth with 66.5 points, well back of Indianapolis' winning total of 198.5.

For Missouri S&T, Katlyn Meier (Vienna High School) was sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.54) and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.00). She was also a member of the Miners' 4x400-meter relay team that was second (3:55.79) and the 4x100-meter relay team that came in fourth (48.99).
