Thursday crash kills Versailles truck driver

10:17 pm update:

A tractor trailer and a smaller diesel truck were involved in a crash on U.S. 50/63 East, Thursday afternoon.

Police said Alan J. Spaulding, 51, of Versailles, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officails said the crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. near the Missouri Highway Patrol General Headquarters in Jefferson City.

Due to the investigation and clean up, East Elm St. and Vetter Lane remained closed in the area of the crash on Thursday night.

The tractor trailer Spaulding was driving went off the highway and crashed into the bluff in front of the headquarters facility.

The smaller truck went off the road and down an embankment behind some homes on the south side of the highway.

The Cole County Hazmat team was called out to take care of diesel fuel from the tractor trailer that had leaked into a nearby creek.

A tractor trailer and a smaller diesel truck were involved in a crash on U.S. 50/63 East, Thursday afternoon.

Authorities confirmed this was a fatality accident, but have not identified the victim.

Officails said the crash occurred just after 2:30 p.m. near the Missouri Highway Patrol General Headquarters in Jefferson City.

Due to the serious nature of the investigation, one lane of the 50/63 East between Clark Avenue and Eastland Drive has been closed until the investigation is complete.
