FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (AP) - Fort Leonard Wood is having a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday for a three-building addition to its Warrior Transition Unit.
The unit helps soldiers who are wounded, injured or ill return to active duty or shift to civilian life. With the opening of the new buildings, the fort is able to offer improved housing to 48 soldiers. They live in 24 two-bedroom suites with kitchen units.
The Warrior Transition Unit also serves 10 soldiers who live in an older barracks and others who live off-post.
The participants are assigned a team of professionals. A primary care manager comes up with a treatment plan and collaborates with specialists. A nurse case manager coordinates medical appointments. And a squad leader helps resolve administrative issues.
