Your Opinion: Vote to take a step forward

Dear Editor:

Over the last several weeks, I have enjoyed speaking with voters in our community about the school board's proposal to build a new Jefferson City High School and East Elementary School. In those conversations, I have heard a number of opinions.

I am supporting the board's proposal because Jefferson City has an opportunity to take a big step forward in how we educate our kids - not just my kids but future generations as well.

We have a good school system with strong leaders, dedicated staff, and talented and enthusiastic students. We need our facilities to be up to 21st century standards to meet the needs of our students and staff. In a state with many fine high schools, I want Jefferson City High School to be a magnet for innovative teachers and staff who will prepare our kids to become active and engaged citizens in our community and around the world.

I hope you will join me in voting "yes" on Questions 1 and 2 to make our schools the best they can be.
