LSU takes baseball series from MU

COLUMBIA - The Missouri Tigers took an early 5-1 lead in their baseball series finale against No. 2 LSU on Sunday, but the visiting Tigers responded with five unanswered runs to complete the series sweep with a 6-5 win at Taylor Stadium.

After each team scored a run in the first inning - Missouri's on an RBI single by Dylan Kelly - Missouri got four more in the second.

In that frame, Dane Opel and Kelly both got hit by pitches with the bases loaded to drive in runs, while Jake Ivory had a two-run single.

But LSU won the game with a five-run third, pushing across the runs on three hits and two Missouri errors.

Case Munson had two hits and was the only player with multiple hits in a six-hit Missouri attack.

After Alec Rash pitched the first two innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits and four walks, Keaton Steele (2-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up two unearned runs on two hits in 41⁄3 innings of work. He walked four and struck out seven before yielding to Jake Walsh. Walsh allowed just one hit and struck out three in the final 22⁄3 innings.

LSU is now 26-2 overall and 8-1 in the Southeastern Conference.

Missouri (9-15, 2-7) takes on Illinois in the Braggin' Rights Game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
