BizBeat: Manicurist dips her toe in JC business
Sunday, March 31, 2013
Kim’s Nail Salon, owned by Kim Nocula, recently opened up at 706 Missouri Blvd., previously Donut Heaven. The new nail salon becomes the fourth such establishment located on the business strip.
With 10 fingers and 10 toes, surprisingly, there are enough nail salons in Jefferson City to get each nail pampered at 20 separate locations.
Jefferson City has 11 locations that focus on nails, and many hair salons in town also provide customers with manicure and pedicure options. Not that going from salon to salon would prove convenient, or cost effective, but it can be done. I wonder what they’d charge for just one nail?
Even with so many places in Jefferson City to choose from, new business owners Kim, and her husband, Kris, aren’t worried about having enough hands and feet to keep their doors open.
After just three weeks in business, Kim’s Nail Salon already has a five-star rating from several customer reviews online. Having previously worked at other local nail salons, Kim has several clients who have followed her to the new location.
After moving to Jefferson City from Vietnam four years ago, Kim didn’t initially dream of opening her own salon. However, after working in other locations, she saw a need in creating her own space, one where customer service was top priority.
“I never found what I was looking for,” she said.
The level of customer care wasn’t up to her standard, Kris said, so she decided to create it herself.
After renovating the Missouri Boulevard location from top to bottom, Kim’s Nail Salon features several manicure stations, and pedicure chairs complete with mounted iPads to keep customers entertained and relaxed. There is also a separate room for more privacy. Two child-sized Hello Kitty pedicure chairs sit nestled in next to the adult chairs just waiting for the next little princess to come along.
The Missouri Boulevard location employs four for now. Kris noted they were worried about having enough work for all of the employees, but said that hasn’t been a problem.
