Antipoverty advocates to stage summit

The 2013 Poverty Summit will be April 9 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City.

Antipoverty advocates from across the state will meet to find ways to engage communities in a renewed "war on poverty."

The keynote speaker will be author Peter Edelman, who will discuss his recent book "So Rich So Poor: Why It's So Hard to End Poverty in America."

Other speakers include Eileen Wallace, who will discuss components of an authentic community, and Gene Nichol, who will explore the moral challenges in a wealthy nation.

Local activist DeAnna Alonso with Central Missouri Community Action will be part of a panel on "Poverty and Opportunity in Missouri."

General admission is $40. For students and seniors, admission is $30. Admission is $10 for low-income guests. Lunch and exhibits are included.
