JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Pharmacists would be able to issue small prescription refills of emergency medication without a doctor's order under a bill passed by the Missouri Senate.
The pharmacy could issue medication to a patient if there is a reasonable risk of harm from stopping the medication and if the patient has previously had the same prescription filled at that location. The medicine issued cannot be a controlled substance and the pharmacy would have to notify the doctor who prescribed the original medication after the emergency refill.
Senators voted 34-0 Thursday to send the measure to the House. The measure is sponsored by Republican Sen. Jay Wasson, of Nixa.
