Missouri softball sweeps Georgia Tech

COLUMBIA, Mo. - It was an offensive explosion for the Missouri softball team.

The No. 7 Tigers swept a doubleheader with Georgia Tech on Saturday, taking the opener 8-0 and the nightcap 16-0. Both games lasted just five innings.

Chelsea Thomas picked up both victories, tossing three shutout innings in the opener, allowing just one hit while striking out five. The senior then threw four innings in the nightcap, allowing just one walk while fanning five.

Missouri scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning in the opener to take control. Angela Randazzo highlighted the frame with a grand slam. Mackenzie Sykes added an RBI double.

Sykes then ended the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.

The outburst carried over into the nightcap.

Missouri plated seven runs in the bottom of the first, added six more in the second and capped the scoring with three runs in the third.

Three home runs in the first inning did the trick. Nicole Hudson launched a three-run blast, while Sykes and Corrin Genovese smacked two-run homers.

Rachel Hay hit the Tigers' second grand slam of the day in the second inning, highlighting the six-run outburst.

Missouri then tallied the final three runs in the third on a three-run double from Emily Crane.

Today's series finale with Georgia Tech has been canceled due to the weather. Missouri sits at 17-2 on the season while Georgia Tech falls to 14-17.
