The Lincoln baseball team saw its bats go cold as it dropped both games of a doubleheader to Missouri Southern on Saturday at Lincoln Field in Jefferson City.
Lincoln fell behind 2-0 early and dropped the first game 3-0. The Blue Tigers managed just two hits and never threatened to do much offensively.
The Lions, who finished with six hits, got on the board in the first with a a solo home run by Dallas Burke. They got another run in the second on a sacrifice fly. A home run by Michael McCoy in the sixth added insurance for Missouri Southern.
Joe Jungmeyer pitched well for Lincoln but took the loss. He allowed three runs on six hits in six innings. Brett Abell got the win for Missouri Southern as he struck out seven and walked three in the complete game.
Lincoln’s bats woke up a bit in the second game, but it wasn’t enough as Missouri Southern completed the three-game sweep with a 7-4 victory.
The game was tied at 4 after five, but the Lions scored a run in the sixth and two in the eighth to put the game away.
The Lions led 3-0 after the first. Lincoln got a pair of unearned runs third to make it 3-2. After Missouri Southern took a 4-2 lead in the third, back-to-back RBI singles by Clint Cashen and Josh Kennedy tied the score at 4.
Missouri Southern (14-11, 10-9 MIAA) outhit Lincoln 14-9.
The Blue Tigers (2-16, 2-14 MIAA) are scheduled to play a doubleheader with Lindenwood on Wednesday at home.
