MU wrestling struggles in the semifinals

DES MOINES, Iowa — It was a semifinal setback for the Missouri wrestling team.

Despite sending three wrestlers to the semifinals, including a pair of No. 1 seeds, the Tigers failed to send a single wrestler to today’s championship round.

No. 1 Alan Waters fell to Penn State’s No. 4 Nico Megaludis in a 125-pound semifinal match. It was Waters’ first loss of the year. He’ll face North Dakota State’s Trent Sprenkle this morning for third place.

After two upsets and a win over Kevin Tao in the quarterfinals, Missouri’s Drake Houdashelt fell to No. 2 Jason Chamberlain of Boise State in a 149-pound semifinal. Houdashelt will compete for third through sixth place today.

Top-seeded Dom Bradley suffered his second loss of the season, falling to No. 5 Michael McMullan of Northwestern. Missouri’s Bradley will wrestle for third-place today.

Missouri sits in sixth place in the team standings with 47.5 points. Penn State leads the standings with 114.5 points.
